Do I have fungal nails?

You may not have fungus even though the nail looks discolored and thick. Trauma micro or large can damage the nail bed and can mimic a fungal nail. To be sure a nail biopsy can determine if there is any fungal growth. If so, we can come up with the best treatment to resolve it!

Should I worry about how my child walks?

Not necessarily. Many kids can go through phases of walking on their tip-toes, pigeon toed or even flat footed. Some may correct themselves as the child develops. Some may stay. You should consult with a podiatrist if you notice:

1. Persistent toe-walking after the age of 2
2. Frequent tripping or falling
3. Becoming tired easily
4. Foot/ankle/leg pain
5. Limping or asymmetrical walking

Why do I have numbness or tingling in my feet?

The answer is it can be caused by many different factors. The medical term is called peripheral neuropathy. If you’re diabetic there is a chance it is from diabetes. The reason is due to the blood sugar being elevated and causing damage to the nerves. Unfortunately, there is no cure for neuropathy but the progression could be slowed down if caught early and blood sugar is better stabilized. There are different options out there too. Topical medication, oral medication and even stimulators.

There is a growth on my foot. When should I get it checked?

Some people will monitor the growth. If it gets bigger or painful then it should be checked immediately. Some bumps can be simple as a ganglion cyst, lipoma or other soft tissue abnormality. I had one rare occurrence where the mass was actually cancerous.

What causes heel pain, and how is it treated?

Heel pain can be caused by many different factors. Such as bad shoes, no support, the way you walk, going barefoot, longer than normal standing/walking and more.  Heel pain can be treated with different options from icing, stretching to oral medications, injections or even surgery. Our office offers many of these and more. Other options could be stem cells and PRP injections. Most insurances will not cover the later options unfortunately.
